This beautiful Smith American Reed Organ, built in the mid 1880's, originally comes from Boston, MA. We brought it to Oregon with us when we planned to restore an old Victorian house in Southeast Portland. Made of burnished walnut, it has wonderful detailing as well as the original keys and stops. It works, although one key continuously plays (known as a cipher). The case is in excellent condition, with only a few, minor imperfections.

We purchased a book on the, "History, Restoration and Tuning," of reed organs which we will include in the organ sale. The American Reed Organ, by Robert F. Gellerman, Vestal Press. The book includes detailed instructions for disassembling and restoring an old reed organ, including how to fix the cipher.

This is a very uniquely beautiful piece that would add to the warmth and musical enjoyment of any Victorian home. If we can answer any questions, please e-mail us at: rsteff@comcast.net
